Gerber Products Company voluntarily recalls specific batches of organic food pouch products after discovering a packaging defect that may cause spoilage during transport and handling.
The company said the affected products included two batches of Gerber Organic 2nd Foods Pouches—Pears, Carrots & Peas and two batches of Gerber Organic 2nd Food Pouches—Carrots, Apple & Mangoes.
The recalled products have the following UPCs best by dates/batch codes:
GERBER® Organic 2ND FOODS® Pouches –Pears, Carrots & Peas, 3.5 ounce pouch
GERBER® Organic 2ND FOODS® Pouches- Carrots, Apples and Mangoes, 3.5 ounce pouch
“Because of our commitment to high quality, Gerber is working to retrieve from retailers and online stores the remaining pouches from the four affected batches of GERBER® Organic 2ND FOOD pouches that fail to meet our quality standards,” according to the company.
Gerber receives reports of temporary gastrointestinal symptoms
According to the company, consumers would notice, in some cases, that the impacted Gerber organic food pouches are bloated, and the product may have an off taste or odor.
Gerber said consumers must not use the product since it does not meet its high-quality standards.
The company already received consumer reports of temporary gastrointestinal symptoms. Gerber said it was unable to confirm if the reports were related to the products being recalled. It is offering replacement coupons to consumers who purchased the products.
Consumers who purchased pouches with the above UPCs, batch codes and expiration dates are encouraged to contact the Gerber Parents Resource Center at 1-800-706-0556 anytime, day or night for a replacement coupon.
The company said the recall does not affect other Gerber pouches or Gerber products outside the United States.
“At Gerber, we place the health and well-being of babies above all else, and we hold our foods to high standards of quality. Gerber remains committed to providing high-quality products and helping families nourish healthy children,” according to the company.
